36. Season One, Episode Thirty Six - “Lotor’s Clone”

Doom Log File Title:
  “Prince Lotor’s Clone”

Summary:
Fed up with Lotor’s failures, Zarkon orders Lotor to quit sending robots after Voltron and to do it himself, so Haggar builds a clone of him that can be sent to Arus to fight on the front lines without risking Lotor’s neck.  Two Lotors: Double the chance, yet twice the failure.  The only thing worse would be two identical blonde princesses running around the Galaxy bombing my ships…*smirk* no, wait I have to deal with that too!  At first Lotor is all for this plan until the clone, which is all of his mean traits magnified, twice as strong (think beer muscles with the hangover attitude), and thinks exactly like he does, decides that he should be in charge instead.  Meanwhile, Lotor lets loose a giant robot on Arus that disrupts the lions’ power with magnetic fields and causes the Castle of Lions to go dark.  Lotor sends out the clone to deal with the Voltron Force, but only Keith comes, in an underwater sled unaffected by the robeast’s powers intending to slap some mines on it to blow it up, while the others stay behind trying to restore the power.  The others stay behind trying to restore the power.  The clone catches and fights Keith, and just about has his ass thoroughly kicked until one of the mines explode and interrupt the fight.  The power disruptions stop, and Coran is able to get a fix on where the robot is being controlled from.  Lotor then declares that the clone is making a fool of him and orders him telepathically to kill Keith to make him look good, but the clone tells him off in front of Keith and says he’ll come after him next.  Lotor tells the clone that if he can't handle it, the robeast will, and the clone then attacks the robeast.  The robeast in turn vaporizes the clone and then goes after Keith.  Lance shows up from underwater and harpoons the robeast in the armpit to bail Keith out, and they ride back in the water sled to their lions while the other lions show up to fight the robeast.  Before long the black and red lions show up too, Voltron is formed, and you know how it goes from there.

Notable Doom Highlights:
Lotor’s exchange with his clone is funny stuff, and so is a conversation between two robots gossiping about the prince, which he walks in on.  Actually I saw the broadcasted battle and I admit I about doubled over when I heard the footage of “Lotor” talking to himself, which he later tried to have censored.  Fortunately since I was a high ranking officer at the time, I heard the live feed before any edits were done.  Some other highlights include Lotor’s clone showing off his fighting skill in the arena and in hand-to-hand with the Voltron Force leader.  I hear the chicks also dig the nearly naked footage of Lotor’s clone in the bio chamber when it’s first brought to life.

Notes:
Rumor has it that Keith thought that “Lotor was never this good” when he fought the clone.  I guess when Lotor knocked him on his ass with a rock back when they first met it must have hurt his memory.  I should just replace the expensive plasma blasters and laser swords with stones and 2 X 4’s with nails in them.  The simpler technology is apparently more precise.
