29. Season One, Episode Twenty Nine - “Magnetic Attraction”
Doom Log File Title: “Arus Burns”
Summary: Doom uses magnetic fields to screw with the weather on Arus, making the water dry up and the planet overheat. Fires sprout everywhere and the lake around the blue lion dries up, making it so it can’t launch and Voltron can’t be formed. Even better, Pinky has the brain fart to end them all and forgets that her water lion needs water to run and agonizes over why her lion won’t fly. But luckily for her, ghost daddy is there to whack her with the clue by four and lets her know that she can’t fly without water. Meanwhile Lotor has a field day decimating the countryside and taunting her, offering her proposals and threatening to take her and ravish her in ways only an evil Doom prince can. Finally it dawns on the Voltron force that they can dig a well and damned if they don’t find an underground lake right under the blue lion. Like cats in a litter box, the lions dig and refill the lake and before you know it the blue lion is back in action, Voltron saves the day, and Lotor goes home princess-less once again to face his father’s wrath.
Notable Doom Highlights: Zarkon’s displeasure with Lotor and this whole fiasco is classic Doom royal family drama. Zarkon gives him another “last” chance, but informs him that his defeats have made him the “laughing stock of evil men everywhere” and points out that the only magnetic attraction on Arus for him is “that kitten.” Well it’s true! Did I ever mention that undead zombie kings really piss me off?
Notes: In the GA’s media release of this incident, they pretend that the robeast decimating the town hasn’t hurt anyone. One moment Keith gives the order to say they need to get everyone to safety and less than a second later they’re going on about how glad they are that everyone got away. Uh-huh. It takes me longer to get to the bathroom than that, and you’re telling me a whole town evacuated? Give me a break.
