11. Season One, Episode Eleven - “Surrender”
![]()
Doom Log File Title: “Arus Surrenders and Reneges Again”
Summary: Haggar casts a spell that sends a red rain down on Arus that burns as it falls. Panic ensues on the planet, and while the Voltron Force is trying to get it under control, Yurak takes an entire village hostage. He gives them the ultimatum to surrender themselves in exchange for the captives. Allura gives the order and the white flag of surrender is raised, but during the hostage exchange Pidge pulls a fast one and sends a disguised little girl in his place so he can catch the Doom forces off guard with the green lion. Since the hostages had already been exchanged and the green lion frees the rest of the Voltron force, they escape back to their lions while Yurak drops a robeast on them as a retaliatory up-yours move. Voltron defeats it, but at least it gives them a good fight.
Notable Doom Highlights: Doom’s forces really show their evil stuff in this episode, and you can see how Yurak wound up as a fleet commander by how he handles the situation. The plan was solid and he made sure that the Arusians knew he meant business. He was ready to order the prisoners’ heads blasted off one by one until he got what he wanted, and it worked like a charm in getting Princess Allura to cave. Had the Voltron Force actually lived up to their end of the bargain and Pidge not been enough of a weenie that he could pass for a little girl well enough to fool Yurak’s sidekick, we would’ve won this one.
Notes: The GA edited this episode pretty heavily to appease the masses. In the uncut media clips you see just how many citizens of Arus suffered under the red rain and the resulting fires. Also, that bit about the one prisoner who was shot being hit with a stun gun? Sorry. That was a laser blast, and Yurak’s log confirms it. Some GA media techie spliced in a convincing imitation of Yurak saying it was a stun gun, but I can assure you that Doom commanders don’t mess around like that.
Overall, the irony in this incident is pretty amusing. The Voltron Force goes on about how good and honorable they are, yet they’re the ones that pull a bait and switch, send an innocent child into a hostage situation, back out of their bargain, and screw us while we (the no good lying scheming meanie jerk-face blah blah blah evil guys) stay true to our word and let a whole village of potential slaves go. This is the second time that a rightful ruler of Arus has forfeited that stinking world to us and then turned around and gone back on it - yet we’re the evil guys for trying to claim what’s rightfully ours by combat and victory. Screw you and the high lion you flew in on, Voltron Force.
This episode shows the hypocritical audacity of those blasted spandex monkeys. Yeah, contrary to Alliance propaganda, we are capable of mercy (read: telling the truth). But, now you see why it is rarely used by us against our enemies: the one time we use it, they go and lie. And we’re trying SO hard to not point guns and laugh and say “Just kidding!” that we can’t see through their ruse. Well, you just inspired me to eliminate any mercy procedures in our future battles. The future blood-spattered casualties will have YOU to blame Voltron Force, so kiss my big, beautiful, blue ass!
