Chapter
Six: More than Meets the Eye
A figure stirred on the ground. Her dark black hair spilled over her head like a black puddle. She slowly sat up and put a hand to her temple to try and dull the pain. She very slowly tried to stand but out she was too wobbly to do so. Quickly she glanced around.
The first thing she noticed was that she was no longer in her senshi outfit. Instead, she had on the clothes she’d been wearing when she transformed. A black skirt, black flats and a white shirt. She found that she still had her hensin wand and stuck it into her black belt. Her mind began to rush with memories. Mainly from the last time she’s fought. That had been against Galaxia. Uranus, her Haruka-papa, and Neptune, her Mirchiru-mama, had pretended that they were interested in the bracelets she was offering. The bracelets that would keep them alive if they would work for her. But she had known them better and quickly linked minds with Uranus. Swiftly, Uranus told her that they would side with Galaxia and then kill her. Saturn had warned them that they would be brainwashed but Uranus told her they would beat it. Saturn swiftly agreed but told her ‘papa.’
“You’ll have to kill us.”
Uranus had screamed in her mind: What?
But Saturn was right. It would have to be done to show they were loyal. Then they would turn on Galaxia. Tears filled Uranus’ eyes and she had told her ‘daughter’ that there was another way but in her heart she had known. Saturn had smiled and said that that was their mission and she believed in the Princess. Uranus had nodded.
Saturn was right. They were brainwashed and did kill her and Pluto. But Galaxia had not died under their power and they died as well. However, Saturn’s faith in her Princess paid off and Sailor Moon defeated Galaxia bringing them all back to life in the process. She shuddered. She prayed that she would not have to go through that again. But she prayed harder that she would not have to see her friends die again.
The girl shook the memories off and tried to get to her feet. She did but barely. Immediately she began calling for the other senshi. Although her voice was soft and weak, she prayed that someone would hear her.
“Haruka! Mirchiru! Setsuna!”
Nothing.
“Princess! Ami-san! Rei-san! Mako-san! Mina-san!”
Nothing again.
“Usagi-sama!”
Nothing.
“Minna!”
Again no reply.
“Haruka-papa! Mirchiru-mama! Setsuna-mama!”
Silence.
“Anyone!”
She sighed and continued walking. She didn’t know where she was or when she was. For all she knew, they could have been sent to another time completely. She might be alone. Tears filled her eyes. Although she was a soldier, she was still a child. She was not a leader. She needed leadership to help her fight. Uranus was the outers’ leader. Minako was the inners’ leader. And Usagi was their leader overall. She needed a leader now. She’d been alone almost her whole life. Even now in Tokyo she had only the senshi and ChibiUsa, Usagi and Mamoru’s daughter, for friends.
The only noise was the crunch of leaves beneath her feet. She heard a strange whining sound and glanced up. A strange flying machine shot over her head. She felt an evil energy from it. Darting into the bushes, she lifted her wand.
“Saturn Cosmic Power! Make-Up!”
* * *
“WilyKat! See anything?”
The male twin looked at his sister. “No sis. Nothing unusual anyway. How about you?”
“No-“ she stopped and pointed ahead. “Except a Skycutter!”
“What do they want?”
“To make trouble most likely. They’re near the Forest of Unicorns.”
“Well,” her brother said, “Let’s go!”
They raced towards the scene. The Mutant driving was Jackalman. He spied them and laughed.
“Come to play, kitties?”
“I guess so, Mutant!” Kit countered and drew her lariat. “And this is one game you won’t win.”
“Don’t be so sure, brats!”
He turned his cannons to them and began to fire. But the twins’ clan was agile already but they were kittens as well as small cat clan members. This gave them agility the Mutant could not even begin to match.
“Hold still, you little imps!”
The twins laughed as they dodged every blow he threw at them. WilyKit threw a few explosive pellets at his engine and it caught flame. The Mutant jumped out as his ship crashed into the ground. He opened his eyes and glared at the kittens angrily.
“Come down here you brats and fight me one on one.”
The kittens laughed again as they swooped around him on their spaceboards. Jackalman took a swing at the female but she quickly avoided it causing the Mutant to fall flat on his face. The Mutant drew his ax and began swinging at them both, intent on removing their heads. The twins were a tad worried now but were still easily avoiding his blows. But Jackalman got a lucky blow in and knocked Kit from her board. Luckily, he had hit her with the flat of the blade.
“Kit!” Kat leapt from his board and scrambled to his sibling’s side. She was dazed, but not too badly hurt with a few bruises and one small cut from hitting the ground. The Mutant laughed and leveled his blade at them. Without waiting for them to react he fired a laser from its end. The kittens looked up to see the red beam near them…and vanish as if hitting a wall.
“What?!” the Mutant cried. The twins got up baffled themselves. Kit ran her hand through the air where the beam had vanished but only found air. Then an alien voice broke through the air.
“Leave them be! You coward!”
The three turned to the source of the voice. From the branches leapt a figure. She was young, a few years younger than the kittens. Her raven hair fell to her shoulders and she had a silver band across her forehead. In the center was a strange shaped purple sphere with a large ring around it. Her uniform had a double-layered purple skirt and a white top. Her boots were deep purple and lace-ups. But what really got their attention was the pole she carried. It was at least twice as tall as she was and two deadly hooked blades adorned the end.
She spoke in an alien language but while the twins’ ears heard the language, their brains translated it for some reason. Judging from Jackalman, it did the same for him. He shook the shock off and demanded.
“Who are you?”
She answered in alien tongue. The group’s ears heard:
“Chimmoku no hoshi, Dosei wo shugo ni motsu. Hametsu to tanjou no senshi, Sailor Saturn!"
But their minds translated it as,
“My guardian deity is the planet of silence…the
soldier of death and rebirth…Sailor Saturn!”
She leveled the blade toward the
jackal. He glared at her and fired a beam of light at her. She calmly held the
blade straight up and called out,
“Silent Wall!”
Immediately, the beam vanished as if
it hit a wall. She did a flip forward and spun the blade in midair. The jackal
watched her, lost in shock. She landed directly in front of him and pressed the
blade against his throat. He panicked and ran. When he vanished from sight, the
girl lifted her arm and the blade disappeared from her hand. She turned to face
the twins.
“Oh, gee, thanks.” Kat stammered.
The girl’s smile helped him calm down. Now when she spoke their minds
translated it immediately, so it was as if she was speaking their language.
“You’re welcome. I felt an evil glow
from him and the moment I saw you, I knew you to be good. My mission is to
protect the innocent and good.”
“Oh,” was all they said.
Saturn realized that perhaps her
uniform was not the best thing to be wearing. It was making them nervous. They
seemed good so she saw no reason not to reveal herself. She lifted her wand and
it lit up bright. There was a flurry of ribbons and then Saturn was gone and
the kittens were looking at a regular ten-year-old girl.
“Whoa!” Kit said. “That was awesome!
Where’d you learn to do that?”
“I was born with the power.” She
answered. “Now do you think you could help me..uh..”
“Oh, duh!” Kit slapped her face. “My
name’s WilyKit and this is my brother WilyKat.”
“Nice to meet you,” she smiled. “My
name’s Hotaru.”
“Hi!” Kat said. “Sure we’ll try to
help you. What is-“
“It?” Kit finished.
“Well, I was flung through time. I
lived in the past, I think. On Earth.’
“This is Third Earth,” Kit offered.
“You must have been flung a mighty long ways.”
“Oh,” the young child said. “I was
flung here with my friends. I don’t know where they are but I KNOW they’re in
this time. We entered it together. But I can’t find them.”
“Oh,” Kit stopped to think. “You can
come back to Cats’ Lair with us. We can keep an eye out for your friends and
you can stay with us until you can find a way to get home.”
“You can ride with me.” Kat said as
he climbed on his board. The child’s eyes filled with tears. He got off.
“Hotaru…you don’t have to..”
No,” she interrupted. “It’s not
that. Thank you. I’ve never had anyone be kind to me besides my fellow senshi.
I’m alone at home.”
“That’s terrible!” Kit said and
touched her hands. “You’re so nice!”
Tears filled the girl’s eyes. She
reluctantly climbed onto Kat’s board. He got in front of her and she clutched
him around the waist. The tears slipped down her face as she said softly,
“Thank you.”
