Raising Amok

By Lucifer Daimaou

Luna scratched behind the ears of her trusted bodyguard, Amok.He had served her well over the years, she knew that she would be nothing without him.She sighed, thinking back to when she had first met the brainless Lunatac.

“The X-rays have comfirmed it, Luna,”Said the doctor, a slim man of the Psychic Lunatac race, “Your body refuses to grow. That, and your leg muscles continue to fatigue for reasons still unknown.”

“So what you’re telling me,”Luna said coldly, beyond anger at that point, “Is that not only will I be a midget but I will be a crippled midget?!”The doctor nodded solemnly.“Curse you for your incompetance!I can walk...just...fine...”Luna said, stumbling as she attempted to walk across the room.

“Listen, I’ve got this wheelchair ready for you, please, use it for your own sake.”The doctor pleaded.Luna scowled at him.

“I don’t need a wheelchair,”She insisted angrily, “Because I can walk just fine!!”

The large creature sniffed the air. Food.There was plenty of it in the large castle.Following the scent of meat, it stomped its way towords the palace, huge, bulging arms leading the way, its long tail flailing behind it.Suddenly, there was a stabbing pain in its side.It roared and looked to see a grinning Gravity-Lunatac holding a glowing red laser. It charged, and the laser was fired again, striking the creature in the chest.Roaring in pain, it swatted the Gravity-Lunatac; hard. The more sentient lunatac went flying, while the creature rushed towords the food source, blood flowing from its fresh new wounds.

Luna pressed the button to move the wheelchair forward.“Hmph, I’ll show them, Third-Moon lunatacs are stonger than any pathetic psychic-race doctor can diagnose.”Though her words were strong, she was in fact, in anguish. She hated the thought that she would be doomed to this tiny state for the rest of her life, and that she would not be able to walk, at that.Snarling, she threw her whip to the floor. She looked at it for a moment. What was mom thinking when she gave me this wretched thing? she wondered. The whip was for mounting creatures, but oddly enough, it was only big enough for one her size, though what she was expected to ever ride was a mystery to her.Suddenly, a gigantic creature came crashing through the gate, bleeding in several places. It stopped in front of her, then sniffed at her curiously.“What do you want, you wretched thing?!”She demanded. In spite of the difference in size between the two, the large creature cowered.Luna almost pitied it when she saw how injured it was.“Are you hurt?”She asked. It nodded.“Well, you’re a lunatac, you can talk can’t you?”it nodded again, “Then explain what happened.”Without question the loud little lunatac’s demands, the creature started to explain what had happened.

“Me smelling food and comming here when lunatac with big gun shoot me, but that scary, guns not supposed to hurt me.”The creature explained.Luna sighed.

“Come with me, I know someone who will fix you up.”Luna said, motioning to follow her.The creature, looking excedingly greatful, lifted Luna out of her wheelchar.“Put me down you-”The creature then placed Luna on his head.

“Where we go now?”It asked.Luna was amazed. She grabbed the horns in front of her, and directed the creature to the doctor’s office.

The doctor found it a bit humorous to see little Luna controlling the giant beast, but he immidiately got to work on it, and Luna was told to wait outside.Cursing, Luna watched the minutes go by in impatience.Finnaly, the doctor came out, looking quite pale and excited.

“Well? Is the creature all right?”Luna demanded.Instead of a reply, the creature came rushing out, and gave Luna a gentle hug.She protested profusely, but then the creature placed her on his head.“I could grow to like this.”She said.

“Luna, that is the most amazing beast I have ever seen,”The doctor said bluntly, “It has hormones and enzyes in it’s body that protect it from virtualy every lunatac ability, it’s immune to ice attacks, it’s large muscles allow it to move freely in the gravity moons, psychic attacks of all sorts have no influence on the beast, and hardly any laser fire can penetrate its skin.”Luna smiled, she had truly found a good ally. Then she remembered.

“But then, why was he so injured? He told me had been attacked.”Luna pointed out.

“Probably because of...this!”A voice said.Suddenly, a gravity-lunatac burst through the roof, firing his laser at the creature. The creature lept, Luna still on its back, atthe gravity-lunatac, but the gravity-lunatac held the speed advantage, easily jumping out of the way. However, he was sideswiped in midair by the creature’s long tail.As soon as he hit the ground, the gravity lunatac found a circular object floating above him, which then emitted a mysterious blue light.

“You will not attack us,” the doctor said, “You will hand over your weapon.”

“I will hand over my weapon...”the entranced lunatac repeated, putting down the laser. The creature immidiately grabbed it and crushed it in its hands. The creature grabbed the gravity-lunatac, and prepared to destroy him when-

“Wait!”Luna ordered, “Let us find out who he is and why he was sent here.”The creature lowered its fist, but kept firm hold on its prisoner.“Now, who are you?Why did you try and attack this beast?”The gravity-lunatac talked for fear of what would become of him if he didn’t.

“The creature’s name is Amok, he comes from an experiment on the gravity moons of Plundarr. He became too dangerous to control, and when he escaped, I was sent with the only weapon that could destroy him.” he explained.

“And now, without that weapon, he is virtualy indestructable.”Luna said in awe.A cruel smile spread across her face, “Let’s test his loyalty.Amok, crush!”With a sickening snap and and the sound of metal twisting, the hands that had been on opposite sides of the gravity-lunatac met.Using Amok’s horns to turn and face the doctor, Luna gloated over her newest companion, “It would seem that I have found the perfect wheelchair, doctor.Good day to you.”

Luna smiled at the recolection. It was not long after that that I forged the “Lunatacs of the Moons of Plundarr” and gained control over most criminal activity on the Third Moon.It is a shame that we were forced into exile...But Amok and I will always be togethar, no matter how far from the moons we are, and we will always be...indestructable.
