A Leader is Born

By Salgal

Katherine, Lady of the Thundercats, screamed her heart out as she pushed her newborn cub out. Claudus, Lord of the Thundercats, was holding her hand and encouraging his wife to keep pushing. Outside the waiting room at the hospital, the rest of the Thundercats: Jaga, Tygris, Chetro, and Willow, waited patiently. Also, in the room was Katherine's goddaughter, 12-year-old Cheetara.

Cheetara's mother, Delana and Katherine were best friends and when Delana gave birth to Cheetara, Katherine promised to be Cheetara's godmother, and Delana promised to do the same for Katherine when she gives birth to her child. Cheetara's mother and father were on the other side of the world on business when Katherine went into labor and couldn't get back to Thundera City on time. Cheetara didn't want to go with her parents so she stayed with Katherine in Cat's Lair. Jaga saw Cheetara sitting by herself and sat next to her.

"It's been a while since I got a chance to talk to you. How are you feeling?" Jaga asked.

"I'm excited. I can't wait to see the baby when it's born." Cheetara smiled excitedly.

"Yes. The next ruler of Thundera."

Just then the doctor came out and everybody attention was now brought to the doctor.

"Well, doctor?" Jaga asked.

The doctor, who had mixed features of a tiger and lion, had a smile on his face. "Father, mother, and son are doing just fine."

The Thundercats cheered and gave each other supporting hugs. They were happy that everyone, especially the baby was all right and that their will be another Lord of the Thundercats in the future.

"Can we see them?" Cheetara asked with shining bright eyes.

"Yes. The nurses have paced them in Room 220.

In her room, Katherine holds her new cub and Claudus sits on the bed besides her with one are around his wife and the using one of his fingers to hold their son whole hand.

"He looks like you, Claudus." Katherine said gently touching her son's forehead.

"He has your smile and red hair." Claudus commented on his son thick red hair.

The baby began to yawn and the two proud parents laughed at their newborn first yawn.

"So what should we name our sleepy baby?" Claudus asked.

"How about the name we agreed on last night? Lion-O." Katherine suggested.

"Lion-O. I like it. That's a good name. What do you think, Lion-O?"Claudus asked his son and tickled his stomach. Lion-O laughed. "I guess he likes it."

At this time, Jaga, the Thundercats, and Cheetara entered and extended their congratulations to the new proud parents. They all awed over the baby and Cheetara sat in a chair next to Katherine.

"What's his name?" Cheetara asked.

"Lion-O." Claudus answered holding his child proudly.

"About time, Claudus. We Thundercats thought you would never get married, and the world was worried about an heir." Willow teased.

"Well, Willow, you can't jump into situations like this. You have to take your time in finding the right woman. No gold digger or someone who doesn't love you, but someone who truly loves you no matter what, like my beautiful Kat." Claudus looked at his wife intently and kissed her. He then look at Cheetara. "And how are you Cheetara? I know your parents don't let you stay up to 1:30 in the morning?"

"I'm fine. Can I hold him, please? I promise not to drop him." Cheetara requested.

"Sure you can." Claudus said and gently handed Lion-O to Cheetara.

Lion-O eyes were closed. "I guess he's sleeping. Hi, Lion-O. I'm Cheetara, your mother's goddaughter." Cheetara told him softly. Lion-O eyes opened and he stared at Cheetara. "He has pretty eyes. Wow! He has more hair than I have ever seen on a baby." Cheetara said amazed as she looked at Lion-O's hair.

"Yes. I think Lion-O is going to have a very long red mane." Katherine laughed.

"I agree. I believe Lion-O has inherited his mother hair." Claudus said regarding his wife's hair.

A nurse came in. "Excuse me, but you all have to leave. Mother and son need their rest."

Cheetara handed Katherine Lion-O and left with the other Thundercats. Claudus gave Katherine a kiss good-bye and followed the others out. Cheetara was staring at the stars in the sky when Claudus finally came out of the hospital and stood by Cheetara.

"Beautiful night, isn't it?" Claudus said looking at the stars.

"Yes, it is." Cheetara said aloud. 'I'm going to take care of you, Lion-O because I'm going to be a Thundercat.' Cheetara thought to herself.

"Come on, Cheetara. Let's go home." Claudus said holding his hand out for Cheetara to the little girl.

Cheetara turned around and took Claudus hand. Together, they walked to the Thundertank thinking. Claudus was happy he was a father, and Cheetara thinking about her future and the training she'll need to be a Thundercat.
