Fanfic 2: Darkness Rising
Where we last left off…..
With that, Roarzuma stormed out of his father’s great hall, and into his
room. Once he had all his belongings packed, he rode out on one of his father’s
horses, and left the kingdom. He ventured into the
It was there, where he planned to face the great unknown. He vowed vengeance against his father and his brother, and would be determined to rule Thundera with the greatest of power.
Once Roarzuma had entered the dark
"I’ll show my father!" Roarzuma said to himself. "He will see that I am worthy of the throne! These enemies must be crushed completely, it is the only way to put them out of power forever!"
Two days after he entered Yarbur, he managed to locate the first Gorthromil sorcerer, a wizard by the name of Hurthaar. He entered the dark cave where Hurthaar dwelt, and did battle with him. Hurthaar was fierce, but not as fierce as Roarzuma, and after a couple hours, Roarzuma brutally killed him, despite his pleas for mercy. Hurthaar also had an orb from which he absorbed great power, and Roarzuma absorbed the power from it, as he did with Sektura’s dark orb. Amongst the cave, Roarzuma also found several books containing dark magic, and Roarzuma kept them. He studied them thoroughly, reading them, and then practicing the magic, until he had finally mastered it. Among his travels, he encountered good sorcerers against the Gorthromils, and challenged and killed them as well. Although unlike the Gorthromils, their power resided in their magical staffs, and it was from them that Roarzuma absorbed their powers of light, and also took whatever good magical books he could find from them, and study their magic as well. However, there was so much darkness in his mind and heart, that even though the powers of good that he learned from absorption and from books, they had no effect on making him a good person, and he could use them for evil purposes if he wished.
Hurthaar’s orb had caused the dark power within Roarzuma to grow, and he became more vicious and evil than ever before. He found that the satisfaction he gained from killing Sektura had amplified by ten times, after he had also killed Hurthaar. He sought out more Gorthromils, ready to absorb their knowledge and great power.
The dark power he received from these orbs started to heighten his senses, and he was able to root out more and more Gorthromils with his power. He continued to fight, overpower, and kill every Gorthromil he came across, absorbing their power from the orbs they possessed. His heart became darker and darker with each passing moment, and he continued to crave the power. The killings with each Gorthromil he found became more and more brutal as well, and whatever spells or knowledge they had he expanded upon.
With each killing, he tried to seek out the leader of the Gorthromils, and so far had little success. All they would say when he asked them about their leader was "Hail Zinizar, GrandSorcerer of the Gorthromils!" before they were killed.
After much hunting, much finding, and much killing, Roarzuma’s number of Gorthromils he killed added up to 100. He felt the power surging within him, and felt more lethal than ever. Along with the skills of goodness he mastered while with his father, and the dark skills, it was a deadly combination. He taught himself both sides of fighting and magic by way of books, studying the white arts and the black arts, until he mastered each.
When he was not in search of Gorthromils, he traveled amongst all sorts of lands, both in the territory of the Kingdom, and the territory of the Gorthromils. Along his travels, he would occasionally meet up with warriors, both good and bad. He would challenge them, and he had defeated each warrior he ever challenged, killing them afterwards. To disguise himself along his travels, for both reasons of his identity, and as a cover when finding Gorthromils, he wore a blood red cloak, which also covered his face. Tales of his nature swept through the villages, and he became known as the "Blood Shroud". He was known to soak the cloak in the blood of his victims after killing them, which added to its color. There were people who’d heard of his identity, and wanted to serve him. Whenever he was within their presence, they gave him whatever he wanted, and this not only boosted his arrogance, but made him more greedy and power-hungry than ever.
One fateful day, he was on the trail of a Gorthromil named Julktor, who was rumored to be a very powerful Gorthromil indeed. Julktor had the power to summon violent storms, and deadly diseases, wiping out entire populations with his power. Roarzuma did not fear him, however, and took pride in the fact that his father and brother had been unable to stop this fiend. He’d picked up Julktor’s trail, and chased him into a dead, hollow tree. This tree was, in fact, the entrance to a massive underground hall. There was a large circle, which turned out to be an arena, and Julktor stood in the middle of it, with flame encircling the arena’s circle. He beckoned for Roarzuma to come forward, which Roarzuma did so, with his sword raised and ready to strike.
"Fight to the death." said a deep, demonic voice. "The winner shall receive all there is to receive."
At the sound of this, Julktor flew forward, ready to attack Roarzuma. Using the power he’d gained from the orbs of the many Gorthromil sorcerers he had killed, Roarzuma blasted Julktor back with a fierce shower of lightening. Julktor countered however, by firing a blast of ice mist at Roarzuma, freezing his right arm. Roarzuma melted the ice by making his entire body red-hot, and then he concentrated all his power upon Julktor, with his palms placed outward in Julktor’s direction. Julktor cried out, as immense pain surged throughout his body at the issuance of Roarzuma’s curse. But Julktor managed to counter with a powerful wave of power that knocked Roarzuma backward, bloodying his nose as well. Roarzuma got back up, and Julktor swept down, and started fighting him in hand-to-hand combat. Roarzuma fought like a ravenous lion upon prey, and Julktor was severely weakened. They fought until Julktor’s powers were exhausted, and then Roarzuma took up his sword, and butchered the fallen sorcerer with it. At that moment, the arena shook, and a pedestal came from out the center, containing Julktor’s orb. Roarzuma stepped up to the pedestal, and absorbed all the power there was from the orb.
"ROARZUMA! NOOOOOO!" came a cry from behind Roarzuma.
Roarzuma turned around, and saw a large panther Thunderian he hadn’t seen in years. It was Enkar, Lord Mannion’s greatest ThunderCat warrior, and it was Enkar who took up the charge of training Toerwyn and Roarzuma. He was the second greatest ThunderCat on the planet, being right behind Lord Mannion in greatness. It was he who had taught Roarzuma all about the true and just ways of fighting. He was also a powerful Thunderian sorcerer, but a good one, and the most powerful sorcerer of goodness and light on Thundera. Lord Mannion had him as his most trusted warrior to fight the Gorthromils, and he had been trailing them for ages, trying to find the root of their source. He had also been trailing the one known as the Blood Shroud, who had been dispatching the Gorthromils one by one.
"Roarzuma, it is you!" said Enkar. "Surely you remember your mentor, Enkar. You must stop this, the power of the Gorthromils has taken ahold of you."
"Taken ahold of ME?!!!!" roared Roarzuma. "HA! I have defeated them, and have become more and more powerful each time they are destroyed! I am doing what my wretched father and brother could not, by ridding the planet of this vile scum forever! I WILL be KING!!!!"
"He has power as well…." Hissed the demonic voice once again. "On his chest, is the Amulet of Thundera, which is the life force of all the power of good among Thundera’s noble sorcerers who fight the Gorthromils. Defeat him, and it will be yours. You’ll absorb all his knowledge, all his strength, all his skills, all his powers, and all of that of his lessers as well."
At the sound of this, Roarzuma’s eyes glinted with greed, staring at Enkar. It felt as though his soul were on fire, yearning for more power, of any kind.
"Have you forgotten everything I’ve taught you?!" said Enkar. "You’ve become obsessed with power and greed! You are an excellent fighter, why not use your skills in the way the Code of Thundera permits, and help your family nobly defeat the threat to our kingdom?"
"I renounce the Code of Thundera!" said Roarzuma. "I live by my own rules, I fight my own way, I make my own victories, I need no code to help me! All I need is to find Zinizar, and after I defeat him I will be the greatest hero the people have ever known!"
Roarzuma made his way towards a doorway that had opened, and drew his sword, ready to see what was behind the door. Enkar however, stood in the doorway, blocking the way for him.
"You’re standing in Zinizar’s lair." Enkar told him. "I’ve come to save you before it’s too late. Zinizar is evil beyond anything you’ve ever known, and he lured you here by making you fight his finest warrior, the sorcerer Julktor. He believes you’re the one who he will build to resurrect the Gorthromils, and he wants to use you to crush the empire. Don’t you see it? If you face him, you’ll be a pawn in his game for conquest, he’s too powerful of a dark foe to handle."
Enkar held out his hand, for Roarzuma to shake. Roarzuma looked at him, puzzled.
"It’s not to late Roarzuma." said Enkar. "Join me, let me guide you, let me heal the damage that has been done to you. There’s still hope, and you’ll still be the great warrior you are now. Together, we’ll take down Zinizar before he can summon anymore of his minions."
Roarzuma responded by spitting on Enkar’s hand.
"I need no guidance from ANYONE!" said Roarzuma. "I am the GREATEST warrior Thundera has ever known! Once I defeat Zinizar, I will be WORSHIPPED by ALL! Now get out of my way!"
"I can’t let you pass." said Enkar. "If you want to face Zinizar, you need to get past me, your master."
"MASTER?!!!" snarled Roarzuma. "I’ll show YOU who’s the TRUE master!"
Roarzuma drew his sword, and stood ready to fight Enkar. Enkar was armed with a saber, and drew that, ready to fight Roarzuma. Roarzuma gave a mighty swing of his blade, and Enkar clashed his saber blade with Roarzuma’s sword. They exchanged blows with each other’s swords, and Enkar held out his left hand, and sent a blast of white energy in Roarzuma’s direction. Roarzuma was hit in the side, but quickly countered with a blast of black and purple lightning, hitting Enkar square in the abdomen. Taking advantage of this, Roarzuma slashed at Enkar, causing a deep cut in his arm, and Enkar clashed his blade with Roarzuma’s again, trying to push him back. When the two were close near each other while pushing against each other’s blades, Enkar kicked Roarzuma in the stomach, and followed up with a roundhouse kick aimed for Roarzuma’s head, both of them dropping their swords. Roarzuma ducked however, and connected with a powerful punch to the chest, then a chop to Enkar’s neck. Roarzuma attempted to claw him in the face, but Enkar was able to grab Roarzuma’s arm and throw him over his shoulder onto the ground. Roarzuma brought him down with him with a foot sweep, and then pounced upon him. The two exchanged various wrestling and ground combat moves to each other, before getting back on their feet. Roarzuma began to think he might not be able to beat Enkar for a moment, because they were dead-even in combat and magic. Roarzuma tried his curse of pain upon Enkar, and it worked for a bit, but Enkar repelled him several feet back with a repelling spell. This brought Roarzuma back to where his sword blade was, and grasped it. Not fully recovered from the pain curse, Enkar pulled Roarzuma back to him, attempting to then hit him with a power-packed fist full of magical energy, that would knock him unconscious, but as he was brought back Roarzuma struck out his blade, and drove it straight through Enkar’s throat, shooting a jet of blood in the air. Enkar coughed, grasping his throat, and falling to the ground, bleeding all over. Roarzuma placed a foot on Enkar’s abdomen, and looked at Enkar’s chest plate. Sure enough, there was a bright jewel, which shown brightly. Roarzuma removed it from the chest plate, and put both hands to it, absorbing its power. Once all it’s power was absorbed, Roarzuma was thrown back, but quickly got to his feet. He now possessed everything that Enkar knew, from magic to every kind of fighting, and all the power of Enkar’s sorcerers came to him as well in a powerful rush. Roarzuma then walked back to where Enkar lay, bleeding to death, and pulled the sword out of his throat, while standing atop his beaten body.
"I told you who was master!" said Roarzuma. "I am master of ALL!"
Roarzuma then took his sword, and stabbed and chopped at Enkar several times, until Enkar was no more than a bloody pile of pulp upon the floor. He then picked up Enkar’s ThunderCat insignia, and crushed it in the palm of his hand as well.
All of the sudden, the room got dark, and a flame appeared inside the room. From the flame, emerged Zinizar, the GrandSorcerer of the Gorthromils. It had been Zinizar’s voice all along that Roarzuma had heard within his head.
"Well done, my apprentice." said Zinizar. "You’ve defeated the greatest bane of the Gorthromils, and have fulfilled the prophecy. Enkar was right, you are the one I look to, an apprentice I can lead, that will resurrect all the Gorthromils, and lead me to my victory. I am the last of the Gorthromils, except for you now, my apprentice."
"I am NOT your apprentice!" said Roarzuma. "I am Roarzuma, rightful heir to the throne of Thundera! I’ve come to destroy you and the Gorthromils once and for all! I will be the most powerful being Thundera has ever known!"
"Your skill and power is great." said Zinizar. "But not as great as myself. Don’t forget, you gained your power and skills from your victories, and most of them belonged to my minions! It is I who made you, and it is I who will rule you, you shall know your master! You’re arrogant to think you can suddenly defeat me and take hold of my power!"
"You are wrong!" said Roarzuma. "I made myself, through all my triumphs, and I am ruled by NO ONE! I will be the one who rules all, and your days are at an end!"
"Enough!" said Zinizar. "You leave your master no choice but to teach you a lesson! You are under MY command!"
Roarzuma sent a great blast of power towards Zinizar, and Zinizar sent a blast of power towards Roarzuma. Rather than hitting each other, their streams of power fused, and formed a connection. Each of them focused all their energy and power upon their beam of power, and the connection got more intense and more energy filled than every. All of the sudden, Zinizar’s stream of energy started to enter within Roarzuma’s stream, but rather than doing him harm, it traveled through the stream and within his body, making him surge with more and more energy. Roarzuma continued to maintain his powerful connection. Zinizar’s prophecy had been more terrible than he ever imagined, and Roarzuma took Zinizar’s energy unto him.
"NOOOOOOO!" yelled Zinizar. "THIS CANNOT BE!!!!! MY POWER IS LEAVING ME!!!!"
And soon Zinizar’s stream of energy began to grow shorter and shorter, as all of his energy and life force surged into Roarzuma. Roarzuma’s stream got smaller as well, as his own power went back into him as well. In a short while, their energy fields had ended, and a great blast threw them both backward. Roarzuma stood tall, still surging with energy, and feeling more lethal and powerful than ever. He walked over to Zinizar, who lay upon the floor, withered and frail-looking, having lost almost all of his power. He crawled upon the floor weakly, trying to reach a door that was locked on the opposite end of the arena, but Roarzuma stopped him, by sticking his sword blade on his cloak.
"Please….have mercy, great one…." said Zinizar, weakly and in a hoarse voice. "You’ve won, you truly are the most powerful warrior in the land….spare me, and I swear I’ll serve you for all time….."
Roarzuma merely laughed at the poor, decrepit form, and raised his sword.
"I am the most powerful warrior in the land." said Roarzuma. "And the Gorthromils are no more, thanks to me."
Roarzuma brought his sword down upon Zinizar, beheading him with one quick slice. Zinizar screamed his last scream as the sword was brought down, and his body exploded in a blast of light, scattering ash everywhere. The door that Zinizar had been trying to reach opened, and a Gorthromil orb, the largest that Roarzuma had ever seen, was present. No doubt this was Zinizar’s orb, and that is what he was trying to reach to regain his powers. Roarzuma stepped up to reclaim his prize, and placed his hands upon the orb, absorbing all it had to give him. The power was so intense, that the orb burst when it gave its last bit of dark energy, and Roarzuma was thrown backward. But once again, Roarzuma arose, and his mind had now been completely poisoned by the dark power he took unto him. All he could think about was power now, and was going to do anything to get it. He set into the royal city, to storm the royal Lair and claim his seat to power. He stood atop the tallest building, calling to all those who supported him, and all the rest of Thundera, in a booming voice.
"The Gorthromils have perished, I, Roarzuma, the Blood Shroud, the heir to the throne of Thundera, have defeated them!" said Roarzuma. "I am your TRUE king now, and now I set to claim my throne of power! All who oppose me shall die!"
Roarzuma then set off to the royal Lair, ready to take his place at the throne. He broke down the lair doors with a powerful blast of energy, and slaughtered all the warriors in his way, making his way to the throne room. Not counting Lord Mannion and Prince Toerwyn, there were 9 ThunderCats in the kingdom, and they all rushed to stop him, insisting that Lord Mannion, Prince Toerwyn and Queen Aynara stay within the throne room. They were confident they could defeat Roarzuma together, but were gravely mistaken. He fought all 9 at once, and sadly, they were no match for Roarzuma, and were killed almost instantly.
At the disobedience of his father, Toerwyn rushed out of the throne room to try and face Roarzuma, when Lord Mannion wanted him to stay within the throne room alongside him and Queen Aynara.
"I will not let you take this kingdom." said Toerwyn. "You were a brother I loved once, now you’re an abomination of all that is good within this kingdom."
"Well then, ‘brother’." said Roarzuma. "Come and take your death like a man then, if you’re so brave!"
Toerwyn rushed at him, and they both battled fiercly, clashing their swords against each other. Roarzuma however, was far too powerful, and broke Toerwyn’s sword from a powerful clash from his own. Then, he levitated his brother off the ground, and exploded him in mid-air, with blood and insides flying all over the palace.
That being done, Roarzuma rushed to the throne room, and blew open the doors like he had the doors to the Lair. There, he found his father, standing in front holding the Sword of Omens in his hands. Queen Aynara rushed to the front, and Lord Mannion tried to catch her before she could get to the front, but it was too late. She fell to the ground, pleading and crying.
"Please my son, you mustn’t do this!" she pleaded. "There is good in your heart, I know it! I love you my son, please don’t do this to your family!"
"If you loved me so much, why wasn’t I first in line to be king?" said Roarzuma. "So now you can join the son you loved more than me!"
After saying this much, Roarzuma snapped his fingers, and his mother was completely on fire. Lord Mannion tried to rush at him, but Roarzuma sent him flying into the ceiling, and left him levitating for a moment. She screamed in agony, but her agony was ended after a moment, by Roarzuma blasting her into a million pieces after awhile of burning. Then Roarzuma let his father drop to the ground.
"And now, it’s time to claim my throne!" said Roarzuma, turning to Lord Mannion. "Step aside, old man! Everything you ever cared about is dead; Enkar, Toerwyn, your ThunderCats, your queen, all dead."
Lord Mannion stood his ground, although shaken by the sight of his wife dying and news of the deaths of others as well, aside from being a little bruised by the fall, he took action.
"HOOOOOOO!" said Lord Mannion.
A blast of red energy from the sword hit Roarzuma square in the chest, and he writhed in agony for a moment, but then formed a protective shield of energy around himself. He fired a stream of dark energy at his father, but the Sword of Omens formed a protective shield around Lord Mannion as well, and the stream bounced between the two forcefields.
"I see you have the Sword of Omens." said Roarzuma. "No matter anyway, it will soon be mine, and I’ll use it to rule over the kingdom! Sword of Omens, come to my hand!"
Roarzuma said this, and also used all the summoning magic he could to try and get it to him. He also tried a reversal spell, to try and turn the sword’s power to evil, and then have it bounce back on Lord Mannion, but that didn’t work as well.
"You’ll never have the Eye of Thundera under your command!" said Lord Mannion. "It will never serve evil, and you know that. You’ll never have it’s power!"
"If I can’t have its power, then I’ll create a power GREATER than it to rule all with!" said Roarzuma.
Dropping his forcefield, Roarzuma drew his sword, and ran through the forcefield created by the Sword of Omens, despite the pain it caused him, and stabbed his father in the lung, knocking him to the ground. This knocked the Sword of Omens out of Lord Mannion’s hand as well, and he couldn’t believe his own son was doing this to him.
"And now, I shall fulfill my destiny!" said Roarzuma.
Roarzuma took his hand, and thrust it into his father’s chest cavity, ripping out his heart. Then, holding it in his hand, it caught aflame and burnt to a crisp. Lord Mannion lay on the ground, and looked at his son as he breathed his last breath, with a look of sheer sadness on his face. Roarzuma then took his sword, and cut off Lord Mannion’s head, as a trophy of his new reign. He took Mannion’s crown in his hand, and its shape and design transformed into Roarzuma’s own vision of a crown. He placed it atop his head. Roarzuma still had his own insignia he had earned when he was young, but decided to keep it, as he now considered himself the Lord of the ThunderCats.
Roarzuma then picked up the Sword of Omens, and held it in his hands. He looked at his father’s body, and brought down the Sword of Omens above his father’s arm, hoping to chop his father up. But the sword stopped mid-air, refusing to move, no matter how hard Roarzuma tried to bring it down with all his might.
"If I can’t use it, then I’ll at least absorb it’s power for my own." said Roarzuma.
Roarzuma then gripped the sword in his hands around the eye, and tried to absorb its power. But all he felt was pain when he tried to absorb it, and no energy was absorbed into him.
"Well then, I’ll just have to make something better!" said Roarzuma.
Roarzuma picked up his own sword, and levitated it, and the Sword of Omens, in mid-air. A surging of energy appeared around both swords, and the stream from the Sword of Omens connected into Roarzuma’s own sword. Roarzuma uttered a dark spell, and his own sword mutated into a dark form of the Sword of Omens. He picked the new sword up, and dropped the Sword of Omens to the ground.
"Aha, you shall be my tool of conquest!" said Roarzuma. "The Sword of Darkness, and the eye shall be the Eye of Roarzuma!"
Roarzuma’s insignia surged with energy from the Sword of Darkness, as that is now what was the driving force of the current "ThunderCats". Roarzuma then looked down to his father, and set the body on fire, watching it burn to a crisp. After that, he decided to get rid of the Sword of Omens as well, and blasted open a hole in the castle wall. From the hole, he could see a view of the mountains, and beyond that volcanoes. He picked up the Sword of Omens, and then repelled it with a repelling spell, until it went into the mouth of a volcano.
Having everything in order, Roarzuma heard a great commotion outside. It turned out that those who had heard of Roarzuma and wanted to support him were fighting the subjects loyal to King Mannion. Roarzuma stepped out on the balcony, holding up King Mannion’s head in one hand and the Sword of Darkness in the other, and yelled to the kingdom below in a voice as loud as a hurricane.
"Behold, people of Thundera, I am your ruler now!" boomed Roarzuma. "I, King Roarzuma, have defeated all, and I am Lord of the ThunderCats! Bow before your ruler, or die!"
Very soon, Lord Roarzuma had created an army of dark warriors, and evil ThunderCats as well, and the Sword of Darkness did Roarzuma’s most terrible works ever. Within a year, Lord Roarzuma had conquered all of Thundera, defeating any opposition to his rule, and assume his role as Lord of the ThunderCats. The time of darkness on Thundera was at hand, and many more dark conquests and horrors were to come, at the hands of this vile ruler.
