This fan site was created for two reasons, to showcase my appreciation for Bushroot and to create a place that I could archive my Darkwing Duck-related fan works in one central spot. Fan sites are getting rarer and rarer, but I still enjoy them and I hope that others do too.
Why Bushroot? Well, he is my favorite Darkwing Duck character. I was a fan of the show Darkwing Duck back when it originally aired in the early '90s, but back then my favorite characters were Quackerjack and Negaduck. I still like them, but my tastes have changed since I was sixteen. (Yes, if you do the math, you now know how old I am!) Re-watching it from my adult perspective with years of working in research under my belt, though, Bushroot became a fast favorite because he and I have a lot in common. While I'm not a criminal mutant plant-duck, I do enjoy gardening, and I worked in research for over 10 years in the biological sciences. While the field was somewhat different, and I worked in corporate research rather than university-style research, I understand scientists quite well after so many years of working with them. Scientists are a goofy bunch, there's no denying that. Also like Bushroot, I've known what it's like to be lonely and have shaky self-esteem, and to be bullied, although I've been fortunate enough to overcome those issues in my own life.
I also like Bushroot because he's such a complex and flawed character. Villains with emotional motivations fascinate me. Bushroot could have been a good guy, but through a combination of circumstance and bad choices, he wound up a bitter and lonely antagonist. He has sympathetic qualities, but he's still undeniably a villain because of his actions and his seeming lack of remorse and conscience about the bad things he does do. Watching him, you wonder if he would be a better individual if he found the friend, love, and/or acceptance he craves so badly. You know he's capable of it, but for some reason, he just can't quite seem to find his way there. To me, that makes him compelling. Plus he's also got a great wit, like most of the Darkwing characters. So this site is my tribute to him, and to the show he's from, Darkwing Duck, which was so much fun for me back in the blah days of high school (I'm with Megavolt/Elmo Sputterspark on how much I enjoyed that!) and is still great for laughs and entertainment so many years later.
