Trivia and other random stuff about the webmistress of this site:
My day-to-day rants,
complaints, and other assorted ramblings can be found in my
LiveJournal, but it's
friends-only. You can comment to the
Friends Only post with
a short introduction of yourself if you would like to be added. I'm happy
to add fandom friends there. I also have a Facebook page, but I only
friend people I feel I know well there. If you find me from here, you will
have to get to know me on LiveJournal or a shared fandom space before I will
friend you on Facebook. The same goes for my personal Twitter account,
which is also friends-locked.
I do have a public fandom Twitter account, LairofCheeze, where I post notifications of updates to my fan sites and pass along fandom-related tidbits.
Commonly asked questions pertaining to me and my site can be found answered here.
My online persona
takes several forms.
Thundercats fans know my persona as that of a psi Lunatac as illustrated in the
image below drawn by Grue.
Denizens of the Denubian that know me from the Voltron fandom don't have a
visual, as my avatars in those circles tend to be that of Cossack, Yurak,
Haggar, or some combination of them. Perhaps it's just Cheezey the psi in a Doom helmet! It could be, since
Coldwin had Vaporshi make me a lovely duck-ified version of Cheezey the psi for
the Darkwing-verse.
My page has been online in
some form or another since 1997. I started out with a small
Thundercats page, Cheezey's Thundercats Zone, that grew to a big Thundercats page and got some
small offshoots along the way. The Voltron section,
Cossack the Terrible's Tour of
Planet Doom, was created in 2004 and represents my renewed interest in Voltron
and the Doomites. Last but not least is the newest
addition, The Last Greenhouse on the Left,
my Darkwing Duck Bushroot fan site. That went live in 2009.
I am
a villain fan through and
through. I don't know why that is, as I've been told I'm a rather nice
person (although a few would disagree, I'm sure, heh heh) but I gravitate toward
villains more often than not. Darkwing Duck's Fearsome Five (especially
Bushroot and Liquidator), the Doomites of Voltron, and the Lunatacs of
Thundercats are my favorite groups of evil baddies. These tastes are
heavily reflected in my fan works for both series.
Why do I like Cossack and
Yurak so much? Well, I like Cossack because he makes me laugh and he's a lot of
fun. Also, and I do mean this as a compliment, he and Coldwin have
a lot in common. Sure, he's not the stunner that pretty boy Prince Lotor
is, but he's also a lot less sulky and broody, and not hung up on a blond ditz
of a princess. Cossack's the kind of guy you can kick back with some
beers, laugh, and have a good time mocking goody-goodies with. I can dig
that in a bad guy. And Yurak? He's a great foil for Cossack (yeah, I
know they never met in the show, but still, I can imagine) and I get out a kick
of his driven Type A hardcore personality. His armor is also cool, and he's a tall hulking bad guy with big ears and a balding look on his head.
I seem to grow fond of those.

What about Alluro?
Wasn't he your favorite for years? But of course! I still adore
Alluro. I know he's tall, purple, middle-aged, bald, and has bad posture,
but he's got such a sexy voice, how can you resist it? Yeah, he has an ego
the size of a small planet (to quote a Darkwing Duck episode), but when you're
Alluro, how can you not have an ego? After all, there's no one on
this or any other planet that can resist his mental powers. Plus he
has pointy ears, I'm fond of the color purple, and his psyche club
and ability to bend people to his will just rocks.
Explain
Bushroot then. And Liquidator. Bushroot is awesome
for all the reasons I listed on the greenhouse's
About This Site page.
To summarize, though, he's a cute little villainous-but-not-quite-evil
plant-duck and I can identify with a lot of aspects of his character. As
for Liquidator, I love his over the top personality and his snarky salesman
dialogue. He's also deceivingly adorably drawn for a villain, especially
since unlike Bushroot, Liquidator doesn't have a whole lot of sympathetic
qualities. But he has some ass-kicking powers and was woefully
under-appreciated in the show, having only one solo episode. I also think
that he and Bushroot make a perfect team.
In real life I'm married to
an elf. Okay, not really. The elf thing is an old joke that
comes from many years ago when Coldwin went by the name Kith the Elven Lord in
the Thundercats fandom, which is where we met. He became "Coldwin" after
our stint playing EverQuest, where his Shadow Knight's name stuck with him
through subsequent fandoms.
Some would say I'm too old
to be doing this. Granted, I'm not ancient or anything. I've got
nothing on Mumm-Ra or Haggar. My birthday is September 23, 1975
(you will send me gifts, you do not stand a chance) so
this little Libra is certainly of an appropriate age to have enjoyed 80s
cartoons. And yes, that means I watched Darkwing Duck when I was in high
school. I used to tape it along with my soaps (which I quit back in the
mid '90s). One could argue the writing on DWD was just as believable as
some of the stuff that went on in the soaps anyway. So yeah, I could "act
my age" and pretend I only have "mature" interests like
my enjoyment of gardening, but who cares? If you deem me a dork I'll only shrug and say yeah, so?
I worked with plenty of people twice my age with "grown-up" hobbies and trust me,
some of them have a lot more to learn about maturity than many of the people I
know from online cartoon fandoms.
Cheezey is a name that comes
from a nickname I had for a beloved cat of mine who I had from 1991-1999.
No, he wasn't orange. He was actually white with black splotches.
The evolution of the nickname is long and somewhat silly, much like my
ramblings.
I have a lot of pets.
Right now my house has three dogs named Jobober, Molly, and Naboo, nine cats (Chibi, Viola, Midnight,
JumJum, Vader, Leia, Mr. T, Minerbel, and Pumpkin). Midnight and JumJum are grown kittens of Viola's,
two of a litter of four. And yes, Jobober and JumJum were names derived from things in EverQuest. Jobober
was at least a genuine pet name though. But wait, that's not all! I
also have two fish tanks and a bunch of chickens and ducks.
I'm a mad scientist. Again,
not really. For about ten years I worked as a scientist for a pharmaceutical company, and some of the people
there made me mad or at least had the capacity to drive me mad. But after
ten years as a lab slave, I moved on to other things. My educational
background is in animal science.
